Uses of
“for and since”
"For"
and "since" are both prepositions that can be used to indicate a
point in time or a duration of time. So, in the present perfect tense,
"for" is used to indicate the duration of an action up to the present
moment, while "since" is used to indicate the starting point of an
action that has continued up to the present moment.
Examples:
Present Perfect Progressive
· I have been studying for three hours. (This means that I started studying three hours ago and I am still studying now).

have been living in this city since 2010. (This means that I started
living in this city in 2010 and I am still living here now).

have known you since you were a kid. (This means that he
met him when he was a child and they still know each other).
- She has lived here for twenty years. (This means that she lived in a place for twenty years).
