League of Legends

League of Legends is a team-based strategy game in which two teams of five champions battle it out to see who can destroy the other team's base first. Choose from a cast of 140 champions to perform epic moves, assassinate opponents and take down turrets to claim victory.

League of Legends has received generally positive reviews; critics noted its accessibility, character designs, and production value. The game's long age has resulted in a critical reappraisal, with reviews trending positive; the negative and abusive behavior of its players in the game, criticized since its launch, persists despite Riot's attempts to address the problem. In 2019, LoL regularly peaked at eight million simultaneous players, and its popularity has led to tie-ins such as music videos, comics, short stories, and even a Netflix animated series, Arcane. Its success has also spawned several spin-off video games, including a mobile version, a digital collectible card game and a turn-based role-playing game, among others. A massively multiplayer online role-playing game based on LoL is in development.

Regularly cited as the world's largest e-sport, the game has an international competitive scene consisting of 12 leagues. These local leagues culminate in the annual League of Legends World Championship. The 2019 event recorded more than 100 million unique viewers, peaking at 44 million concurrent viewers during the finals. National and international events have been streamed on live streaming websites such as Twitch, YouTube, Bilibili and on cable television sports channel ESPN.
